MARCH 2024
Nether Hub Revamp was a project to replace the old Canal Corps nether hub which was in a basalt biome at 0,0 and was very small, and was more of an aesthetic build than functional, it featured a very small platform at the top and a circular floor under with large obsidian towers. Many players complained about it and wished for a better design. After several witherings over time, the old hub was too damaged and thus had to be replaced. Eventually a few players at spawn saw the hub and decided to replace it and build a bigger one.
On 17th March, the discord was created and plans was passed around. Many players including Niseau, F1zb0, Positron_48, GrokkingGamer, NextGenK, Stonaxxx, WaveLuke, Ashiokk, Haxington, LeakyBalls, Kasperl13, Kenstud and a few others that helped in the project some way or another. A few ideas was thrown around, such as making 2 hubs, the top hub for transport, and the bottom for pvp, but this was not accepted and another design making a 250×250 floor at Y 119 with “roads” leading to all 8 axises and portals everywhere to make all spawn portals lead to the nether hub, with a small 0,0 portal/hub and everything under was to be mined up.
Work began with the removal of the old nether hub, it was to be mined fully and the old obsidian roads be mined up to 250 blocks in the nether. Ashiokk used withers to mine the obsidian floor, saving time. After that it was removing the nether ceiling to make room for the world eater, so Niseau, Positiron_48, GrokkingGamer and Stonaxxx used tunnel borers after realising mining manually would take too long. After many design tests and many failures and dozens of hours later, the ceiling was fully bored by late April.
(Nether ceiling cleared for the dupers)
The ceiling was fully cleared for a world eater and GrokkingGamer built it and ran it over. The lava pockets had to be manually removed and nether portals as well, which added to the time. It was finished in a week, and the building could start.
The obsidian was supplied by Positron_48 and GrokkingGamer, Niseau built the majority of the hub using EasyPlace (allowed mod) with the help of WaveLuke. Portals was spammed everywhere in each chunk and portals under the hub was removed. The ice tunnels and diagonal tunnels are connected by roads leading to 0,0. Kenstud slabbed the entire hub to prevent ghasts and magma cubes from spawning.
On the 20th of May 2024, Niseau declared the project finished. After 2 months and well over a dozen players contributing, and countless hours and resources spent, it was well paid off as it serves an important infrastructure use and ease of travel and access to spawn has been greatly made easier. Thanks to all who was invloved :)
